The vanishing drive in

Last night we went to the drive in for an evening of wholesome family fun. This sort of entertainment is becoming obsolete. I believe there are less than 10 left in the state of Michigan. The land they occupy would probably bring in more revenue if it had a strip mall or factory on it. The main problem with having a drive in around here is the short window of opportunity. Sunset in the summer doesn't arrive until almost 10:00, watching a double feature will keep you there until 3 AM. On top of that, mid June to mid August are the only times when it is warm enough to visit the drive in. (I froze my ass off during the second movie last night). They offer playgrounds, putt putt and a snack bar to entertain the kids before the movie, but for the $40 we spent last night, we could have gotten a couple pay per view movies, ordered a pizza and made it to bed at a reasonable hour. We used to go two or three times a year but last night was our first visit this year. We noticed also that it was far less crowded than it has been in recent years. I don't think it will be long before the Cherry Bowl disappears from the landscape as well. I'm glad I got this picture of Jon while I still can.
