This morning our brave lawmakers burned the midnight oil raising our taxes to avert a government shutdown. If not for their selfless efforts, we would not have access to the lottery or State Park outhouses. We'd have to learn to live without the State Police seat belt enforcement traps or road construction delays. They made sure every citizen of this state would be given the chance to waste 3 hours in the Secretary of State waiting to pay $150 for license plates (not plates but a little damn sticker to put on your plates).
Some of my friends had planned to take advantage of the Police reduction by speeding more often and parking illegally. I could care less about the cops being off the roads. I was more excited about the DNR being out of the woods. Not only would I not need a license to hunt, I wouldn't even have to wait for the season to open. I planned to get up early today and go bag a couple fawns and have venison veal for dinner tonight. If the shutdown continued through the week, we would have had a bald eagle cookout on Saturday.
