Yesterday we were out walking by the river and happened to spot several odd looking ducks. I snapped a couple pictures. My zoom photography needs some work, but we were able to identify it as either The Loch Ness Monster or a Bufflehead. Neither are native to this region. Nessie has only been spotted in Scotland and the Bufflehead is native to Washington State. They could be migratory but they would have to be really off course. If there are any scientist types or Washington residents reading this, I could use some input. I have never seen these ducks around here before. I'm going out today to look for coconuts. They could grip it by the husk.

Global warming, dude. Global warming.
That is a Bufflehead pair. He's got the big white cheek patch and she the small one. Their range is not restricted to WA. According to The Birds of North America, they can winter almost anywhere across the US (including all of Michigan) and breed primarily in Canada, with a few isolated pockets in the US.
