Today we spent a few hours at the zoo in Grand Rapids. Not a bad zoo for the drive, much better than the zoo we used to have around here. Our old zoo really sucked. It had a crow, a goat, a bunch of animals that slept under a log all the time, a bear that lived in a cage that was about 2% larger than he was. I remember the biggest display was a pool with about 100 painted turtles.
Today the kids saw penguins, a tiger, warthogs and dozens of other animals they have never seen before. It was an educational experience for the whole family. I think more than anything else, we discovered that monkeys should wear underwear.

I remember that zoo in Traverse. That thing would be condemned in these times. That pool full of turtles was the only thing about that zoo that didn't suck. I used to hate seeing that poor bear, he lived a miserable existence and I hope he eventually found himself in a decent habitat and didn't die in that hell hole.
