Peta

Let me expand a bit on that nutjob comment from my last post. I am not against the ethical treatment of animals. My definition of ethical treatment varies from that of the nutjobs at Peta. Here are some of my bullet points-

  • Fur is not murder, fur is comfortable and warm, I'm sorry a racoon had to die for my coat, but after having to pick up my garbage for 2 weeks straight last summer, those bastards are on my shitlist. If I could, I would drink rum out of his skull too.
  • Eating meat is what we are supposed to do, it's our position on the food chain. It's one of the perks we enjoy because we're higher mammals.
  • Animal testing is how we cure diseases and help us live better. If someone had told me my sons could live if 10 cute monkeys died, I would kill them myself.
  • Putting a sweater on your dog is not an example of ethical treatment, how do you think other dogs would treat a wiener dog in a cardigan?

A couple of years ago I bought a carton of free range chicken eggs and I've been buying them ever since. Not only are the animals treated well, they are fed good food. More importantly the eggs taste better than any other brand of eggs I had eaten since I left the Leelanau County hill country. They cost more than the other egges (almost twice as much) but the difference between $4 and $2 when it comes to a dozen eggs isn't too bad.

But everyone knows that southern farmers take certain "liberties" with thier chickens. That may explain the difference between northern eggs and southern eggs.

SINCE I left Leelanau. SINCE! Meaning they is just as good.

Besides I really doubt the southern farmers are any more perverted than those that prowl the fields up north.
