Winter bares it's teeth again

Another weekend, another storm. Not the storm of the century but we are starting to get tired of being cooped up indoors. I had heard about a sports card show going on today so decided to check it out. I used to collect cards back in the late 80's and early 90's but my cards have all been packed away for over 10 years. This is what happens when you start having kids. Since Jon is out of town for the weekend, I took the girls for a drive to the Civic Center which is where the show was. When I walked into the room, I noticed right away that the three of us were probably the only people in the room that knew what a girl looked like. I bet these guys could all tell you the difference between a Klingon and a Romulan. OK I know that one too. What I did learn today is the hobby of collecting sports cards isn't about being a sports fan anymore. It's all about opening a bunch of card packs looking for a rare insert card- the ones the card manufacturers print on a limited basis to drive up their price. I tried to talk to a couple guys about sports but all they knew was which player had limited edition cards worth the most money. Dorks

We didn't hang out there for long, we decided to go check out the museum. That was much more fun, we managed to kill a couple hours there, eating lunch and poking around a bookstore. Every time we got back in the car, I had more snow to brush off the windows. This all added up to many new inches of snow waiting in the driveway when we got home. Yay!

These guys that are all about how much their cards are worth are in for a shock twenty years from now when all these over produced and carefully protected cards aren't worth the paper their printed on. True rarity is what makes something valuable, not manufactured rarity.

The only collecting I do now is when I buy the occasional small lot of older Detroit Tiger common cards: http://tinyurl.com/bsc243
