Who's up for a bit of ravagement and destruction?

Yesterday I claimed that it is human nature to ravage and destroy. I still stand behind that statement except I want to clarify that when I said human, I meant modern civilized humans.

When Annie was younger, we used a backpack to take her everywhere. The backpack allowed me to carry her easily to places we could never have taken her otherwise. Last year we still used the backpack, but she exceeded the mechanical limits of the frame and it became cumbersome to use. For that reason, we had to avoid some of our favorite trails and seek out trails that were less challenging. We found the Boardman River has a network of trails and boardwalk that offered us that access. With better access, we found more people (modern civilized humans) and more beer cans, fishing tackle and food wrappers. In spite of the best efforts of the Grand Traverse Conservation District to save the troubled watershed of the Boardman River, they are making it easier to pollute and destroy. Forgive me for my cynicism. People suck. I wish Bill Hicks were still alive so he could prove it for us. I suppose I could donate my time or money to clean up after these loathsome gargoyles. The easy way out is to teach my kids to be low impact users and hope that science can develop a beer can that ducks can eat.
