Traverse City has a late February event downtown called
WinterWowFest. Kind of a lame name but there's a soup contest and anything with a soup contest is OK as far as I'm concerned. I would go to a rockfight if there were a soup contest too. Of course I'd wear a helmet.

Boardman River in the winter. |
Although this has been a freakishly warm winter, we got a fresh dumping of snow last night, perfect for soup. We bundled up, drove downtown and waded through the crowd to pay $10 for a dozen soup samples and an official
Soup’r Bowl Soup Tasting Competition ballot . Then we stood around a table and tasted soup, offering bites and endorsements to one another. Germs be damned, we got soup! We ended up casting our vote for the seafood soup at
Schelde's, but there were three or four we could have gorged ourselves on. I was pleasantly surprised that Shelde's had such a good soup because it's kind of a old folk's eatery. You know, this whole post makes me think that eating a lot of soup makes me try to bore the crap out of people. Last year I came home, full of bisque and chowder to make
this video. Honestly, sometimes I don't know what the hell gets into me.

What could be more boring than a black and white picture of an undecorated
coffee mug, hey Ansel, how about rotating the damn thing so we can see the handle?
That would be slightly more interesting.

While we were out, I took a few pictures with this cool new camera app called
Camera 360 on top of that, Google + now offers some basic edits for pictures. Just because I'm boring as hell, I tried a few out.

G+ has a photo editing effect that makes your state of the art
digital image look like it was taken with a Polaroid in 1979.
Is that guy wearing a Jason mask? |

Ice sculpture with a cool magnifying glass. No edits, this is the actual picture. |

When my friend Heidi said she was going downtown to the WinterWow fest, I thought she had made the name up. She is like that. I see that wasn't the case. We drove by yesterday, unimpressed. But, like you, we can deal with a lot for soup.
Making a magnifying glass out of ice is very cool.
